Common Diseases of Stool: Piles / Fistula / Fisher

Dear friends Come on! Let’s discuss some of the common diseases of the anus or anal canal or rectum, i.e. Piles, Fissure and Fistula. Most of the patients when come to us are not aware what are they suffering from any one of these diseases. Piles or Haemorrhoids are the inflammation in the swollen veins in the lower part of the anal canal or anus, these are painless. Piles are of two types, internal and external haemorrhoids. These haemorrhoids are present in everyone’s body, but when they get enlarged, they are considered as abnormal. Internal haemorrhoids are painless as they belong to the nerve fibres of the intestine and so cannot be felt, but the external haemorrhoids when protrude from the anus start bleeding during hard stools. It occurs due to constipation, obesity, pregnancy, sitting in the toilet for a long time, weakening of the rectus muscles, diarrhoea and mainly due to lack of fibre diets and liquids, etc. The tear or a cut around the anus, which are painful, is known as fissures. Fissures typically cause severe pain and bleeding with bowel movements. Fissures are quite common in the general population, but are often confused with other causes of pain and bleeding, such as haemorrhoids. It is noticed when passing the stool becomes difficult or constipation occurs, while we try to stretch and gives pressures to the sphincter muscles. There are two types of fissures, acute and chronic. Acute fissures are easy to treat and heal with time, chronic fissures are difficult to treat and have the chances of reoccurrence. If the fissures do not get healed, one should take the medical help. Fistulas are an opening of a cavity. In the case of fistulas, pus is discharged out of the anal area. Anal Fistula is formed especially to the person who has anal abscess earlier; it is a type of opening in the anal area filled with the pus. The small gland in the anus gets infected and causes an abscess. The symptoms include swelling, pain, redness and irritation around the skin of the anal canal, with the discharge of the pus through the fistula. Generally it is controlled through proper medication, but sometimes it may reoccur after a few months or years. The main cause of all these diseases is constipation. So if we avoid constipation, we may be free from these diseases. If the patient gets his treatment for these diseases in the beginning, they can be cured through simple medication only.
